Cattail Empty
PostSubject: Cattail   Cattail EmptyWed Jun 08, 2011 9:33 pm

Cattail Cat_ta10

Heres a pic I took of some cattails.
A very useful plant. Ive seen Ray Mears use the bushy end as kindling for fire plus you can eat the plant in a variety of formats.
The American Indians made much use of it.

This page on the plant will give you far much more info on this thing than I ever could so please take a look. There is a wealth of information on this cheeky little number

I think this is the common cattail
Typha latifolia

Thanks for this information, Floyd. There were cattails all over the place where I grew up, and yet I didn't know a lot of the facts presented in this link! I am going to forward it to some people I know "back home".

Makes me a little homesick. Mom and I used to go out and collect cattails in the Fall and make arrangements for the house. Smile Nice memories!
