PostSubject: good sources of vitimin C   Tue May 17, 2011 2:49 am

I made this last year and gave my kids a couple of spoonfuls a day any time anyone has a sore throat or cough, worked wonders !
used during the war to boost vit C

Rosehip syrup ( has a tomatoey flavour matching the colour)

250g of ripe rose hips
125g sugar
500ml water
5 cloves (optional)
cinnamin stick (optional)

crush rosehips and add to water, stir and then simmer for 20 min. strain mixture through a few layers of muslin (you do not want any hairs to come through so dont be tempted to squeeze) may take a while
add sugar to the liquid in a clean pan and simmer for 10 mins
store in sterile jars
once open keep in fridge and use within 1wk

Thanks Silver. Rosehips are all over the place in autumn. How many do you collect usually.
Rosehip is supposed to be good for the heart/heart chakra.
You can make a ling life fruit leather from this hairy little hips too I will be expermenting with later this year.
Thanks for this Silver. Will be giving it a try.

cant really remember think we collected about 2 icecream tubs worth they are quite light (just make sure they ve not been sprayed with anything and dont use if they have turn squishy)
I found it useful to store it in 100ml bottles - a spoonful being 5ml
our batch made about 8 x 100ml in nov keeps for 1yr (got the btls from an oil and vinagar shop )
opened my 6th btl yesterday for my sons sore throat seems bit better this morn .He had 8 spoonful over the day
This can be used just as a syrup on pancakes or anything else so no worries about having too much

let us know your fruit leather recipe.

Thank you Silver!
I plan to do rosehip syrup this autum 2011!!
Last year, I found one recipe in the Hedgerow Medicine book, by Julie Bartlett Bruton (2008), unfortunately by the time I knew about it, it was too late to collect the rose hips.
